Alexis is is an experienced CEO with extensive leadership experience in the nature-based wellness, affordable housing and finance sectors. Alexis founded Root in Nature because of a long-time love of plants and gardening and an appreciation of their therapeutic benefits.
She holds a BComm in Finance, an MBA in International Development Management, and is an active member of the Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association.
Serving 11 years as CEO of Habitat for Humanity in Ottawa and Halifax, Alexis was named one of Ottawa Business Journal's Forty Under 40 for both business achievements and community involvement. In 2022 Root in Nature won a Best Ottawa Business (BOB) award for Best Performance in Social Entrepreneurship.
Alexisβ interest in horticulture grew through volunteer engagements with World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF). On weekends she can be found in her fruit and vegetable gardens, growing food for her husband to cook and two young daughters to enjoy.

The main objective of this project is to bring the Emotional Resilience and Action in a Changing Climate online course to launch-ready status by finalizing content, designing visual learning materials, and developing an outreach plan to promote the course to its intended audience of health professionals. Project Goals: Content Review & Refinement: Carefully review the course script and facilitator content across all modules to ensure clarity, flow, and alignment with learning objectives. Refine language where needed to enhance accessibility, emotional sensitivity, and professional tone. Slide Deck Creation in Canva: Design engaging, accessible, and visually cohesive slide decks for each module using a consistent Canva template. Outreach & Marketing Plan Development: Develop a strategic outreach plan to promote the course to health professionals, including therapeutic horticulture practitioners, mental health providers, and educators. This plan will include: Audience segmentation Key messaging based on user insights Suggested promotional materials (e.g., emails, social media, flyer templates) Recommendations for community partnerships or professional networks This 60-hour project is intended to bridge the final gap between development and delivery, ensuring the course is professionally presented and reaches the professionals who can use it to support climate-related emotional wellness.

Designing a Presentation on Therapeutic Horticulture for Organizational Wellness
The objective of this project is to develop an evidence-informed 50-minute presentation titled "Aligning Therapeutic Horticulture Programs with Organizational Wellness Objectives". The presentation will clearly communicate how therapeutic horticulture programs can align with organizational wellness goals across healthcare, senior living, and community settings. Tasks and Activities: Students will: Conduct a review of literature and case studies on therapeutic horticulture, focusing on measurable outcomes such as resident engagement, cost savings, staff retention, and health improvements. Research best practices in wellness programming within senior living and healthcare sectors to understand alignment opportunities. Analyze examples of successful therapeutic horticulture programs and distill insights into presentation slides. Collaborate to refine key messaging and ensure the presentation is clear, accessible, and persuasive to non-technical audiences (e.g., executives and wellness directors). Provide copywriting support to ensure tone and structure are engaging and professional. Deliverables: A polished slide deck presentation (Canva) using our template (minimal design work required) with speaker notes. A one-page handout or infographic for attendees summarizing key takeaways and evidence-based benefits. Optional: social media post or email draft promoting the session to a professional audience.

Root in Nature Inc. seeks to enhance its content strategy by leveraging data analysis and AI tools to understand engagement patterns across its email campaigns, online courses, and YouTube channel. The primary goal is to identify trends and patterns that can inform smarter content decisions, ultimately improving the performance and reach of their therapeutic horticulture offerings. This project provides learners with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in data analysis, AI, and digital marketing. The team will analyze existing engagement data to uncover insights that can guide Root in Nature's content strategy.
